Lima Youth Symphony Orchestra

Lima Youth Symphony Orchestra

In 1967 the Lima Youth Symphony Orchestra was initiated through a collaborative effort of the Lima Noon Optimist Club and the Lima Symphony. The orchestra consists of over 70 members from a surrounding area of more than 30 miles and statistics show that nearly one half of the Youth Symphony personnel are composed of home-schooled youth. Each participant must audition for their position and there are often several students competing for a single position. Each year the Youth Symphony presents concerts for approximately 2,500 school children, showing them what they might accomplish with diligence and practice. Their year is climaxed by a concert attended by about one thousand adults. The director of the orchestra is Lloyd S. Butler who is music director of the Ohio Northern University Symphony Orchestra.  Mr. Butler received his Master of Music in Conducting from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
